Fall is for Football at Lake Oconee
October 6, 2021
Fall on Lake Oconee takes on an idyllic quality —fall brings lower temperatures, breezy evenings and water dappled by the rays of the autumn sun. It’s still warm enough to take to the water, but cool enough to enjoy so much more.
Fall in the south means something else special too… it’s football season! Whether you want to keep up with your alma mater, favorite college team, or beloved pro football team, there are plenty of places around Lake Oconee to kick back and watch the game. We’re a short drive to Athens, Georgia, so you can grab your favorite tailgate snacks here and then head out to watch the Dawgs play!
Catch the game on the big projector at OBC
On Saturdays, cheer on UGA while you enjoy a cold craft beer at Oconee Brewing Company! Watch the game on screen in the event center while your kids play board games and cornhole. Oh, did we mention pups are welcome too?!
This year, they released their Oktoberfest style beer, called Leon’s Lederhosen. It’s dark orange in color and has a smooth, malty flavor. Perfect for the fall weather!
If you aren’t into football, catch a concert on the weekend!
Enjoy good food and football at Lake Oconee Bistro
Watch your favorite game of the week at Lake Oconee Bistro, sampling one of their craft beers on tap. The Bistro has screened outdoor seating with views of Lake Oconee as well as a new sushi bar! On Saturdays and Sundays from 11am – 3pm there’s even a Bloody Mary Bar to go along with brunch.
Pizza, Wings & Beer
Let Amici Lake Oconee be your home for sports! There are televisions all around the restaurant and bar that will be sure to have your team’s game on! Pizza, wings and cold beer make for the perfect game watching treats.
Grab all your tailgating goodies from Ripe Thing Market
Ripe Thing is a quaint farmers market located in downtown Greensboro. On Fridays and Saturdays, Mr. Ken smokes ribs to pick up for your tailgating needs. In addition, each day they make their own outstanding home-made salsas, Pica De Gallo, guacamoles, and tomatillo salsas, and the “you can’t-get-enough-cause-it’s-so-good” smoked pimento cheese that’s made locally right here in Greensboro. You’ll be the chip and dip champion with these snacks! There are also plenty of yummy fruits and vegetables to grab, and everything is farm-fresh!
Is it even a football game without wings?
Need something to do during UGA’s bye week?
