Completed in 1807, The Old Gaol is believed to be the oldest existing jail structure in the state. With its castellated roof-line, sloping stone walls, and fortress-like appearance, the building has remained virtually unchanged for more than 200 years. The granite structure has two-foot-thick walls, two stories and a trap door above the entry, whereby condemned prisoners were hung before being dropped to their death… stop into Genuine Georgia located in Downtown Greensboro to get a set of keys so you can tour the inside!
