March 1, 2017
1. Camping
Camping is a family favorite for those with kids of all ages in search of adventure! Kids will love fishing, playing volleyball on the beach, biking, and sleeping under the stars. Lake Oconee’s campsites, Parks Ferry, Old Salem, and the KOA, include swimming beaches, restrooms, and picnic areas. You can even bring your furry family members along!
2. The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee
School’s out and it’s time for a luxurious getaway to The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee! If you are looking to stay active on Spring Break you might try kayaks, canoes, paddleboards or the resort’s outdoor heated pool. Or experience something new and take a ride on a segway around the gorgeous property. If you’re looking for a slower pace you’ll find plenty of areas to relax whether reading in a hammock or enjoying nightly s’mores by the campfire. Enjoy a little time kid-free by utilizing the Ritz-Kids program. There’s a little bit of everything at The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee.
3. Durhamtown Off Road Resort
Even the youngest riders can enjoy Durhamtown Off Road Resort. Rent an off road dirt bike or four-wheeler in a variety of sizes and don’t worry about the little ones getting caught up in the chaos. Durhamtown offers a track for children ages 8 and younger exclusively called the Armadillo Track. The Peewee Youth Track for those 13 and younger might also be the perfect spot for your family. Durhamtown has available cabin and RV rentals or tent camping sites, which are also pet-friendly.
4. Golf Lake Oconee
Enjoy a father-son day at Harbor Club for golf (while the ladies shop in downtown Greensboro). If you are staying at The Ritz-Carlton or Reynolds, you have access to all five of Reynolds courses. Is your child an aspiring golfer? They may enjoy and benefit from a private lesson at The Reynolds Kingdom of Golf, presented by TaylorMade, which is open Tuesday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment only. Dad might even want to splurge on a pair of custom fit clubs while he’s there.
5. Rent a Boat
Take the entire family out for the day on a boat or jet ski. Many rental services also provide tubes and wakeboards. Experience what an entire day on Lake Oconee feels like and don’t forget to swing by the Jumping Rock, a local favorite! If you are feeling hungry after a few hours in the sun, dock your boat at The Ritz-Carlton for lunch at Gaby’s By The Lake and enjoy the lakefront views.
6. Dining
One of the best parts of spending time at Lake Oconee is the incredible food! The Silver Moon provides a fun, relaxed atmosphere or you might try Luigi’s for family pizza night. When you are ready for dessert, take a trip to Oconee Sweet Sensations with the kids for ice cream!
